How to Transfer Saved Emails From Thunderbird to Gmail

Create the IMAP Account

Step 1

Log in to your Gmail account.

Step 2

Click on the “Gear” icon and select the “Settings” option.

Step 3

Click the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab.

Step 4

Locate the “IMAP Access” heading and select “Enable IMAP.”

Step 5

Click on the “Save Changes” button.

Export From Thunderbird to Gmail

Step 1

Double-click on the “Thunderbird” icon to launch the program.

Step 2

Click on the “Application Menu” button.

Step 3

Select “Options” from the menu, and then select the “Account Settings” option.

Step 4

Click on the “Account Actions” button.

Step 5

Click on the “Add Mail Account” button.

Step 6

Enter your name, Gmail address and password. Click on the “Continue” button.

Step 7

Select the IMAP option and click on the “Done” button. Thunderbird will populate the program with all of your Gmail folders and emails.

Step 8

Copy and paste all of your old Thunderbird emails over to one of your Gmail folders. After you copy and paste your files, your Gmail account will update with the new emails. You can now close and delete the Thunderbird application.
